ICD-Code F01.3: Mixed cortical and subcortical vascular dementia

You have dementia caused by circulatory disorders in the brain.

Circulation in the brain can be disrupted if a blood vessel becomes blocked or narrowed. But the blood vessel can also tear so that it bleeds into the tissue. If a circulatory disorder suddenly occurs in the brain, a stroke may result. As a result, brain tissue may be damaged or die. Various symptoms can occur depending on which parts of the brain are affected. For example, dementia may develop.

The symptoms of your dementia first appeared after the blood circulation in your brain malfunctioned one or more times. Circulatory disorders in the brain can be caused by strokes or long-term high blood pressure. The heart pumps blood through the arteries to every part of the body. The pressure in the arteries must be enough for all the organs to get enough blood. On the other hand, if the blood pressure is too high, the heart, kidneys or other organs may get damaged. Under stress, our blood pressure naturally rises. During the night, our blood pressure usually falls.

With this dementia, the memory may gradually get worse. You may also be unable to do some things as well as you used to. Walking or talking, for example, may become difficult. It may also be difficult to think or to begin a task. One may lose the desire to do anything. One may also develop a fixed facial expression and become more unfriendly to other people.
