An area of your heart muscle is inflamed.
The heart is composed of a thick layer of muscle and a thin membrane inside the heart. An external sac, the pericardium, surrounds the heart. This sac consists of a protective membrane.
With an inflammation of the heart muscle, the heartbeat may become irregular. It may no longer be able to pump enough blood through the body. This may result in noticeable heart palpitations, chest pain, or shortness of breath, for example.
