Im Körper gibt es normalerweise 2 Nieren. Sie filtern das Blut und bilden den Urin. So helfen sie, den Körper zu entgiften. Außerdem regeln die Nieren unter anderem den Blutdruck und den Gehalt an Mineralstoffen im Blut.
Blutgefäße versorgen die Nieren mit sauerstoffreichem Blut. Wenn ein Blutgefäß zum Beispiel teilweise oder vollständig verschlossen ist, kann zu wenig sauerstoffreiches Blut in das Nierengewebe gelangen. Wenn das Nierengewebe nicht ausreichend mit sauerstoffreichem Blut versorgt wird, dann kann das Nierengewebe ganz oder teilweise absterben. Man kann dann starke Schmerzen haben. Es kann auch sein, dass man Blut im Urin hat.
