Die Brust besteht aus Fettgewebe, Bindegewebe und der Brustdrüse. In der Brustdrüse wird während und nach der Schwangerschaft Milch gebildet, um das Kind stillen zu können.
Fettgewebe besteht aus vielen einzelnen Bausteinen, den Fettzellen. Wenn das Fettgewebe der Brust zum Beispiel durch eine Entzündung stark geschädigt wurde, dann kann das Fettgewebe absterben. Die Fettzellen werden dann oft durch Kalk ersetzt. Dadurch können einzelne Bereiche der Brust verkalken. Das kann man manchmal als Knoten in der Brust tasten. Man kann dann Schmerzen in der Brust haben. Man kann aber auch keine Beschwerden haben.
