Die Gebärmutter liegt im Becken und ist wie eine Birne geformt. Der schmalere Teil ragt nach unten in die Scheide hinein und heißt Gebärmutter-Hals. In der Gebärmutter entwickelt sich bei einer schwangeren Frau das Kind. Die Plazenta bildet sich während der Schwangerschaft in der Gebärmutter der Mutter. Die Plazenta besteht aus Zellen der Mutter und aus Zellen des ungeborenen Kindes. Die Plazenta versorgt über die Nabelschnur das ungeborene Kind mit Nährstoffen und Sauerstoff.
