Die Gebärmutter liegt im Becken und ist wie eine Birne geformt. Der schmalere Teil ragt nach unten in die Scheide hinein und heißt Gebärmutter-Hals. In der Gebärmutter entwickelt sich bei einer schwangeren Frau das Kind.
Wenn sich das Kind während der Geburt aus der Gebärmutter schiebt, dann kann der Gebärmutter-Hals einreißen. Der Gebärmutter-Hals kann auch durch bestimmte Hilfsmittel verletzt werden, die man zur Unterstützung der Geburt einsetzt.
Aus einem Riss im Gebärmutter-Hals kann es bluten.
