Es ist zu einer Frühgeburt vor der 29. Schwangerschafts-Woche gekommen.
Normalerweise wird ein Kind ab der 38. bis zur vollendeten 42. Schwangerschafts-Woche geboren und ist dann vollständig entwickelt. Man zählt die Schwangerschafts-Wochen meistens ab dem Tag der letzten Regelblutung. Von einer Frühgeburt spricht man, wenn das Kind vor der vollendeten 37. Schwangerschafts-Woche geboren wird. Wenn ein Kind zu früh geboren wird, dann kann es bei der Geburt ein niedriges Gewicht haben.
Bei einer Frühgeburt sind möglicherweise einige Organe noch nicht richtig entwickelt. Wenn zum Beispiel die Lungen noch nicht richtig entwickelt sind, dann können Probleme beim Atmen auftreten. Die Blutgefäße im Gehirn sind noch sehr zart und können deshalb leicht reißen. Wenn es ins Gehirn einblutet, dann können gesundheitliche Probleme auftreten.
