Das Gehirn besteht aus mehreren Bereichen. Im Großhirn findet zum Beispiel das Denken und das Planen von Handlungen statt. Im Kleinhirn werden Bewegungen vorbereitet und aufeinander abgestimmt. Der Hirnstamm ist für verschiedene unbewusste Aufgaben zuständig, wie zum Beispiel das Atmen. Der Hirnstamm geht in das Rückenmark über.
Es gibt verschiedene Ursachen für eine Schädigung des kindlichen Gehirns. Zum Beispiel kann das Gehirn geschädigt werden, wenn es Probleme mit der Durchblutung und Sauerstoff-Versorgung gibt. Auch eine Verletzung des Kopfes während der Geburt kann ursächlich sein. Je nachdem welcher Teil des Gehirns geschädigt ist, können unterschiedliche Beschwerden auftreten.
