Die Lunge liegt links und rechts im Brustkorb. Sie ist über die Bronchien und die Luftröhre mit der Nase und dem Mund verbunden. Man braucht die Lunge, um zu atmen. Beim Einatmen gelangt Sauerstoff in die Lunge und reichert sich dort im Blut an. Dieses Blut fließt dann zum Herzen. Das Herz pumpt das sauerstoffreiche Blut dann in den Körper. Dadurch werden alle Organe mit Sauerstoff versorgt.
Bei einer Atemnot ist die kindliche Atmung erschwert. Die Atmung kann beschleunigt sein. Es kann sein, dass sich die kindlichen Nasenflügel beim Atmen heftig bewegen. Es kann auch sein, dass die kindliche Haut bläulich verfärbt ist.
