Der Magen-Darm-Bereich kann in einen oberen und einen unteren Teil aufgeteilt werden. Zum oberen Teil gehören die Speiseröhre, der Magen und der erste Abschnitt vom Dünndarm. Zum unteren Teil zählen der Rest vom Dünndarm und der Dickdarm. Die Innenseiten von Speiseröhre, Magen und Darm sind mit Schleimhaut ausgekleidet. Eine Schleimhaut ist eine feuchte Haut.

Wenn es beim Kind im oberen Magen-Darm-Bereich blutet, kann blutiges Erbrechen auftreten. Blut in Erbrochenem kann rot, braun oder schwarz aussehen.

Im Magen-Darm-Bereich kann es zum Beispiel bluten, wenn die Schleimhaut gereizt oder entzündet ist. Im Magen-Darm-Bereich kann es ebenfalls bluten, wenn die Leber geschädigt ist. Wenn die Blutgerinnung gestört ist, kann es stärker und länger bluten als gewöhnlich.
