Die Schilddrüse ist ein kleines Organ im Hals unter dem Kehlkopf. Sie besteht aus zwei Seiten, welche links und rechts der Luftröhre liegen. Die beiden Seiten sind über eine Brücke aus Schilddrüsen-Gewebe miteinander verbunden. Die Schilddrüse benötigt Jod, um wichtige Botenstoffe für den Körper zu bilden. Diese Botenstoffe beeinflussen unter anderem den Herzschlag, die Verdauung und die Körper-Temperatur.
