Im Augenlid befinden sich unter anderem Fett, Muskeln und verschiedene Drüsen. Die Drüsen bilden einige, teils fettige Bestandteile für die Flüssigkeits-Schicht auf dem Auge.
Durch die Fehlbildung am Augenlid kann die Schutzfunktion für das Auge eingeschränkt sein.
