Die Hohlvenen sind große Blutgefäße. Sie sammeln sauerstoffarmes Blut aus dem Körper und befördern es zurück zum Herzen. Es gibt eine obere und eine untere Hohlvene. Die obere Hohlvene befindet sich rechts im Brustkorb. Bei Ihnen gibt es auch links im Brustkorb eine obere Hohlvene.
Wenn man eine zusätzliche obere Hohlvene hat, dann hat man meistens keine Beschwerden. Es kann aber sein, dass durch die zusätzliche Hohlvene das Blut an einer anderen Stelle als normalerweise ins Herz fließt. Dann wird das Blut nicht wie üblich erst in die Lunge, sondern gleich wieder in den Körper gepumpt. Dadurch wird der Körper möglicherweise nicht ausreichend mit Sauerstoff versorgt. Es kann dann zum Beispiel sein, dass man weniger leistungsfähig ist oder dass man Luftnot bekommt.
