Der Darm besteht aus dem Dünndarm und dem Dickdarm. Im Dünndarm werden die meisten Nährstoffe aufgenommen. Im Dickdarm werden dem Stuhl Wasser und Mineralstoffe entzogen. Der letzte Abschnitt vom Dickdarm ist der Enddarm. Der Stuhl wird dann über den After ausgeschieden. Der Darm entwickelt sich schon vor der Geburt. Es kann manchmal sein, dass sich der Darm dabei nicht richtig entwickelt.
Es kann zum Beispiel sein, dass ein Teil vom Darm größer oder kleiner ist als normalerweise. Es kann auch sein, dass sich ein Teil von der Darmwand ausgestülpt hat. Möglicherweise liegen Abschnitte vom Darm nicht an der richtigen Stelle im Bauch.
