Die Nieren filtern das Blut und bilden den Urin. So helfen sie, den Körper zu entgiften. Außerdem regeln die Nieren unter anderem den Blutdruck und den Gehalt an Mineralstoffen im Blut.
Wenn eine Niere an einer ungewöhnlichen Stelle liegt, dann führt das nicht unbedingt zu Beschwerden. Es kann jedoch sein, dass durch die ungewöhnliche Lage der Niere der Urin nicht gut abfließen kann. Dann kann sich der Urin in die Niere zurückstauen. Das kann das Nierengewebe schädigen.
