Die Knochen des Schädels werden Schädelknochen genannt. Die Schädelknochen schützen das Gehirn und die Sinnesorgane am Kopf. Zu diesen Sinnesorganen gehören zum Beispiel die Augen oder die Nase. Zu den Schädelknochen gehören außerdem die Kieferknochen, in denen die Zähnen sitzen.
Zum Schädeldach gehören die Knochen oben am Kopf. Auch die Knochen der Stirn, der Schläfe und der Seite des Schädels sind Teil des Schädeldachs.
