Botenstoffe heißen auch Hormone. Botenstoffe steuern viele Vorgänge im Körper wie zum Beispiel die Verdauung oder das Wachstum.

Es kann zum Beispiel sein, dass Sie eine Insulin-Pumpe haben. Der Botenstoff Insulin sorgt dafür, dass der Zucker aus dem Blut in die Zellen aufgenommen wird. Insulin wird durch bestimmtes Gewebe in der Bauchspeicheldrüse gebildet. Bei der Zucker-Krankheit hat man zu wenig Insulin im Körper.

Es kann auch sein, dass künstliches Material in Ihrem Körper bestimmte Geschlechtshormone abgibt. Manchmal setzt man Botenstoffe zum Beispiel auch bei der Behandlung von Krebs-Erkrankungen der Brust ein.
