Wenn ein Gelenk stark abgenutzt oder verletzt ist, dann kann man Schmerzen haben oder sich schlechter bewegen. Man kann dann einen künstlichen Gelenk-Ersatz bekommen. Dabei werden entweder nur bestimmte Teile des Gelenks oder auch das ganze Gelenk ersetzt. Der Gelenk-Ersatz wird im Knochen verankert.
Es gibt 2 Unterarm-Knochen, die Elle und die Speiche. Die Elle liegt auf der Seite des kleinen Fingers. Die Speiche liegt auf der Seite des Daumens. An beiden Unterarm-Knochen kann man einen oberen, einen mittleren und einen unteren Abschnitt unterscheiden. Die unteren Enden von Elle und Speiche sind über das Handgelenk mit der Hand verbunden.
