Tissue samples have been taken from your pericardium.
The pericardium is a layer of connective tissue surrounding the heart. There is some fluid in the pericardium (heart sac). So the heart is able to move inside this lining.
The tissue samples were taken using a hollow needle. This type of needle can be inserted through the skin into the pericardium. A tissue sample can also be taken from the pericardium via the oesophagus. In this case, a tube is inserted into the oesophagus. The needle is then passed through the wall of the oesophagus into the pericardium. While the tissue sample was being taken, images were also taken of the inside of your body. That way it is possible to see exactly where the needle is.
