The breast is made up of fatty tissue, connective tissue and the mammary gland. Milk is produced in the mammary gland during and after pregnancy so that the child can be fed.Milk travels from the mammary glands to the nipples via individual ducts. Each of the individual ducts has an opening in the nipple area.
For the purpose of the examination, a thin tube is inserted into the relevant milk duct via the nipple. There is a camera at the top of the tube. The camera sends pictures from inside the body as the tube is advanced along the milk duct. In this way, the inside of the milk duct can be viewed and assessed for any changes.
