A new assessment has been made as to whether you should be given a donor small intestine.
If important organs are no longer working, then a replacement organ may help. The appropriate organ or tissue can be donated by other people. The donor organ or donor tissue has to be removed surgically.
Your small intestine is no longer working properly.The small intestine is the longest part of the gastrointestinal tract. The small intestine consists of 3 sections. The 1st section begins immediately after the stomach and is called the duodenum. The gallbladder and the pancreas secrete the digestive juices in this section. The jejunum and ileum sections come next. The nutrients are absorbed into the blood from the food in the small intestine. The small intestine is followed by the large intestine.
A questionnaire and various tests are usually used to assess whether a person is suitable for a donor small intestine. There are many different factors involved, such as one’s state of health.
There is usually a very limited number of donor organs available. So there is a waiting list for the organ concerned. You have been put on the waiting list for a donor small intestine or you continue to be on this list.
