You had a special test to measure your body’s absorption and release of a substance.
This type of test investigates certain processes in the body using radioactively labeled (radiolabeled) substances. For this purpose, a radiolabeled substance is first introduced into the body. The substance can be injected directly into a blood vessel. It can also be swallowed and absorbed by the intestines into the blood vessels. The blood vessels distribute the radioactively labeled substance around the body. The body then processes and excretes the substance.
In some tests, the distribution of the radiolabeled substance throughout the body is recorded using a camera or a gamma probe for measuring radiation. This makes it possible to calculate how much of the substance is absorbed or released within a specific period of time. Other tests determine how much of the radiolabeled substance is found in bodily fluids such as blood or urine.
