The prostate forms part of the male genital organs. The prostate sits below the bladder and encircles the urethra. The prostate is also known as the prostate gland. Some of the seminal fluid is formed in the prostate.The tissue in the body is made up of cells. A tumor disorder involves the cells multiplying more than normal. This results in abnormal or excess tissue forming. A tumor can be benign or malignant.
A gamma scan is an examination in which a radioactive substance is used to make tissues and processes in the body visible. A radioactive substance that accumulates in prostate tumors in particular was used in your body. This type of examination involves injecting the radioactive substance into a blood vessel. The radioactive substance spreads through the body via the blood. If prostate tumor tissue is located anywhere in the body, the radioactive substance will accumulate in that location. A camera then records the distribution of the radioactive substance throughout the body as an image. This makes it possible to determine whether and at which sites in the body prostate tumor tissue is present.
