OPS-Code 5-049.4:
Operations on nerves and nerve ganglia: Interfascicular suture of a nerve and nerve plexus with graft: Nerves to hand
A nerve in your hand was stitched and partially replaced.
Nerves are a sort of wiring in the body. Nerves conduct information. The nerves use electrical impulses to do this. Nerves are important, for instance, in enabling you to sense contacts and temperatures, and to move your muscles.
If a nerve has been severely damaged or cut through, then in some cases part of the nerve must be replaced. To replace parts of a nerve, nerve tissue from another part of the body can be used. The nerve tissue is then stitched to the damaged nerves and replaces part of the nerve.
