OPS-Code 5-189.1:

Operations on auricle and external auditory canal: Other operations on the outer ear: Removal of perichondrium for transplantation

You had perichondrium removed from your ear.

The outer ear (or auricle) is the external, visible part of the ear. The internal structure of the outer ear is made of cartilage. Cartilage is firm tissue that is also found in the joints, for example. The cartilage on the ear is surrounded by a thin layer known as the perichondrium. The perichondrium has numerous functions. For example, it supplies the cartridge with nutrients.

Heavily damaged cartilage can be treated with healthy perichondrium. The perichondrium should help the formation of new, healthy cartilage. Perichondrium can also be used to replace other tissue, for example in the ear or nose areas.
