The ear is a sensory organ that is used to hear and to maintain one’s balance. There are 3 different areas in the ear: the outer ear, middle ear and inner ear.The middle ear begins behind the eardrum. It consists of the air-filled tympanic cavity and the 3 ossicles.The ossicles transmit sounds from the eardrum to the inner ear in the form of vibrations.
This type of operation is intended to restore the middle ear. If there is a hole or tear in the eardrum, the eardrum must also be restored. The eardrum can be covered with connective tissue or a thin layer of cartilage for this purpose. The auditory ossicles are partially or fully removed and then replaced.
You had parts of your auditory ossicles replaced with synthetic material. The material used may be metal or plastic, for example.
