OPS-Code 5-202.0:

Other operations on middle and inner ear: Incision in mastoid process and middle ear: Antrotomy

The connection between your middle ear and your mastoid process was widened.

The ear is a sensory organ that is used to hear and to maintain one’s balance. There are 3 different areas in the ear: the outer ear, middle ear and inner ear.The middle ear begins behind the eardrum. It consists of the air-filled tympanic cavity and the 3 ossicles.

There is a small bony projection on the head behind the ear. It contains small cavities full of air. You can feel this bony projection behind the ear.The mastoid process is the name given to the bony projection on the skull directly behind the ear. The cavities inside it are connected to the middle ear. Diseases of the middle ear can spread to the mastoid process via this connection.

To widen the connection, the bone in the upper part of the middle ear and at the junction with the mastoid process can be drilled through or removed. Parts of the bone inside the mastoid process can also be removed.
