The ear is a sensory organ that is used to hear and to maintain one’s balance. There are 3 different areas in the ear: the outer ear, middle ear and inner ear.The inner ear contains the organs of hearing and balance.
There is a small bony projection on the head behind the ear. It contains small cavities full of air. You can feel this bony projection behind the ear.In order to reach the inner ear during surgery, the bony projection behind your ear was hollowed out or partially removed. Through this point of access, your organ of balance in the inner ear was intentionally destroyed using instruments or substances. Substances used for this purpose include certain drugs, for example. The organ of hearing (cochlea) is normally also damaged as part of this procedure.
