OPS-Code 5-219.1:

Operations on the nose: Other operations on the nose: Resection of a choanal atresia, transpalatal

A closed rear nasal opening (opening at the back of the nasal passage) was surgically opened.

The nose has external openings called nostrils. On both sides, there are also openings at the back of each nasal passage that connect to the throat. A person may be born with one or both rear nasal openings narrowed or completely closed.

During surgery, the rear nasal opening was opened through the palate (roof of the mouth). This type of surgery sometimes also involves inserting a tiny plastic tube to keep the opening in place.

Additional indicator
