The paranasal sinuses are air-filled cavities in the skull. They are each connected to the nasal cavity via an opening that forms the inside of the nose. The paranasal sinuses are lined internally with mucous membrane. There are four different paranasal sinuses.The sphenoidal sinus is located behind the nose inside the skull.
The openings between the nose and the paranasal sinuses can become narrowed due to pathologically altered mucous membrane. This surgery used a balloon to dilate an opening that had become constricted.
