OPS-Code 5-223.8:

Operations on the paranasal sinuses: Operations on the frontal sinus: Placement or replacement of a drug-releasing, self-expanding, bioabsorbable implant

Synthetic material was inserted or replaced in the area of your frontal sinus.

The paranasal sinuses are air-filled cavities in the skull. They are each connected to the nasal cavity via an opening that forms the inside of the nose. The paranasal sinuses are lined internally with mucous membrane. There are four different paranasal sinuses. The frontal sinus is above the eyebrows behind the forehead.

The synthetic material may consist, for example, of a tiny tube to keep the opening between the frontal sinus and nasal cavity open. The tiny tube delivers medication to the surrounding tissues. The purpose of this medication is to counteract swelling. The tube dissolves by itself after a certain period of time.
