The sinuses are cavities in the skull that are filled with air. They have an inner lining of a moist and smooth membrane. This inner membrane is also called the mucous membrane. The mucous membrane produces fluid. Each of these paranasal sinuses are connected to the nose via an opening. As a result, fluid can run out of the sinuses into the nose.There are paranasal sinuses in the upper jaw, the forehead and behind the nose.
Your nose was used as a point of access for this surgery. A camera is inserted into the nose for this purpose. The camera sends images to a screen. Small instruments such as forceps or scissors are also inserted into the nose.
Your operation involved removing bones from between the eye socket and the ethmoidal cells.The ethmoidal cells form part of the paranasal sinuses and are located behind the nose inside the skull.
