Every tooth consists of 3 sections: the crown, the tooth neck (cervix) and the tooth root. The crown is the visible part of the tooth. The tooth neck is covered by the gums. The tooth root keeps the tooth in the jawbone.Every tooth has a hollow interior. Connective tissue as well as nerves and blood vessels are found inside a tooth.The hollow space inside a tooth’s root is called the root canal.
A pin made of metal or ceramic, for example, is used to anchor a tooth into the jawbone. This type of pin is pushed through the root canal inside the tooth until it enters the jawbone. The pin therefore provides an additional means of anchoring the tooth in the jawbone.
