You have had a special defibrillator implanted.
A defibrillator is a device that can deliver very strong electrical current to the heart in an emergency. If the heart is beating very fast for instance, it may not be able to pump blood properly anymore. Thanks to the current surge, the heart should beat regularly at a normal pace.
A special defibrillator is composed of a housing with a battery and a cable. The housing is normally located on the left side of the chest under the skin or between the muscles. The end of the cable is located in the area of the sternum under your skin.The sternum is a flat bone at the front of the chest. The ribs and the two collarbones are attached to the sternum.
