OPS-Code 5-379.2:
Rhythm surgery and other operations on heart and pericardium: Other operations on heart and pericardium: Heart extraction post mortal (for transplantation)
The heart was extracted after death for an organ donation.
If important organs are no longer working, then a replacement organ may help. The appropriate organ or tissue can be donated by other people. The donor organ or donor tissue has to be removed surgically.
Certain organs can only be donated by deceased individuals because life is impossible without those organs. These include the heart or the lungs, for example. You can specify before you die whether you wish to donate organs. You may also specify which organs you wish to donate. If you have not specified anything, that decision is taken by your next of kin after you die.
Additional indicator
If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.
- L: Left
- R: Right
- B: Both sides
Note
Your doctor will assist you with any health-related questions and explain the OPS code to you in a direct consultation if necessary.
