Varicose veins are enlarged veins.Veins are blood vessels that transport the blood back to the heart.In the leg there are superficial veins immediately below the skin and deep veins between the muscles. The superficial veins are connected to the deep veins by short veins. The blood flows to the heart via the deep veins. If the blood backs up in the veins, the veins can become enlarged.
You had a treatment that involved severing and removing the affected veins through a small incision in your skin. To remove a vein, a thin tube is normally inserted into the vein via a small incision in the skin and advanced into the leg. The vein is then threaded to the tube and removed. This is how the large vein on the inside of your leg and a vein on the back of your lower leg were treated.
