Arteries are blood vessels that transport blood away from the heart. They supply all the tissue in the body with oxygen-rich blood.
There is a large cartoid artery on either side of the front of the neck. In its course, the common carotid artery branches into two arteries, namely, the internal carotid artery and the external carotid artery. The internal carotid artery runs through an opening in the skull and supplies blood to the brain. The external carotid artery supplies blood to the face.
To seal a blood vessel, it can be clipped or ligated, for example. As a result, blood is no longer able to flow through the vessel or out of the vessel.
