You have had another operation after previously having a tube implanted in a vein.
This type of tube is designed to stay in a vein for an extended period of time.Veins are blood vessels that transport the blood back to the heart.There are various reasons why a tube would need to be placed in a vein for an extended period. Different types of tubes may also be used. The tube may be placed in the neck or at the collarbone.
The end of the tube can be connected with a chamber under the skin or may extend out of the body. The tube can be used to remove blood or deliver drugs, for example. This type of tube can also be used to clean the blood using a special device.
Follow-up surgery after implantation of the tube may be necessary if, for example, a blockage or kink develops in the tube.
