A special wire was used when operating on one or more of your blood vessels.
Blood vessels transport the blood from the heart to the different tissues and organs in the body, and back again. In so doing, they provide the tissue and organs with oxygen and nutrients, and remove waste substances.
When operating on blood vessels, it can be necessary to precisely track the location of the instruments in the body. A special wire was used to this end. Light is directed through this wire. If the wire moves, the direction of the light changes. These changes are measured. The measurements make it possible to show the location of the wire in real time.
Images of the blood vessels are usually produced prior to the operation. During the operation, the location of the wire can be displayed on a screen together with these images. This provides a spatial impression of where in the blood vessel the wire is currently located.
