OPS-Code 5-484.x2:
Operations on the rectum: Rectal resection with sphincter retention: Other: Open surgical with ileostomy and blind seal
During an operation, your rectum was removed.
The last segment of the large intestine consists of 2 sections. These 2 sections are the rectum and anal canal. The feces are collected in the rectum. The feces then move through the short anal canal to the anus. Feces are excreted through the anus. The anus is located at the end of the intestines and is ring-shaped. A sphincter muscle in the last segment of the intestines ensures that feces are excreted only intentionally through the anus.
The operation involved making an incision in your abdomen. Another small opening was also made in your abdomen. The upper end of the intestine was then sutured to the hole. This created an artificial opening for the intestine. The intestinal waste comes out through this artificial outlet of the intestine. The lower end of the intestine was sewn back up. During your surgery, the anal sphincter was preserved.
