OPS-Code 5-528.0:
Operations on the pancreas: Pancreatic (tissue) transplantation: Injection of pancreatic tissue (pancreatic islet transplantation)
You were injected with islet cells from another person’s pancreas.
The pancreas is located in the upper abdomen. It regulates the sugar content in the blood and forms substances for digestion, for example. The pancreatic islet cells produce insulin. Insulin ensures that the sugar from the blood is absorbed into the cells.
If a person’s own islet cells are no longer able to produce enough insulin, it may be possible to receive donated islet cells from another person. In such cases, the donated islet cells are usually injected into the liver. The liver is an important organ on the top right of the abdomen. For example, it helps with blood clotting and detoxifying the body. Nutrients from food are processed in the liver.
