OPS-Code 5-538.9b:

Closure of abdominal hernias: Closure of an diaphragmatic hernia: In recurrence, with alloplastic material: Open surgical, transthoracic, with repositioning of an intrathoracic stomach

You had another operation to surgically close a hiatus hernia.

The diaphragm separates the chest cavity from the abdominal cavity. Above the diaphragm are the lungs and the heart. Beneath the diaphragm are the stomach, liver and spleen. In the diaphragm there are some openings which the large blood vessels and the oesophagus run through.

With a hiatus hernia, one of these openings in the diaphragm is enlarged. This enlarged opening can enable organs to move from the abdominal cavity into the chest cavity. To close your hiatus hernia, your ribcage was opened by making an incision in your skin. Your stomach or parts thereof have again moved from your abdominal cavity into your chest cavity. The hiatus hernia was closed using synthetic tissue.
