OPS-Code 5-789.1d:

Operations on other bones: Other operations on the bone: Epiphyseodesis, temporary: Pelvic

The growth of one or more pubic bones was temporarily slowed down by an operation.

The pelvis is made up of different bones. There are 3 bones on each side which each merge to form one large pelvic bone. A joint connects these two large pelvic bones to the sacrum at the back of the body. The sacrum is part of the lower spine. The two pelvic bones plus the sacrum form a bony pelvic ring or girdle. At the front, the two pelvic bones are firmly connected to each other by ligaments and cartilage fibers.

The operation was performed on one or more growth plates of the pubic bones. There are growth plates in the long bones in the arms and legs, and the long bones in the hands and feet. There is a growth plate at each end of these bones. In children and adolescents, bone growth originates from the growth plates of the respective bones.

During the operation, a specialized device is typically inserted near the growth plates. These specialized devices can be screws or plates, for example. This makes it possible to slow down the further growth of the pubic bones for a certain period of time. The device used can be removed later on. The pubic bones can then continue to grow.
