OPS-Code 5-789.1z:

Operations on other bones: Other operations on the bone: Epiphyseodesis, temporary: Scapula

The growth of the shoulder blade was temporarily slowed down by an operation.

The shoulder blade is a flat bone. It is in the upper part of the back, to the right and left of the spine. As part of the shoulder joint, the shoulder blade connects the upper body to the arm. The shoulder blade is involved in many movements in the shoulder area.

The operation was performed on the growth plate of your shoulder blade. Growth plates can be found in certain bones. In children and adolescents, bone growth originates from the growth plates of the respective bones.

During the surgery, a specialized device is typically inserted near the growth plate. These specialized devices can be screws or plates, for example. This makes it possible to slow down the further growth of the clavicle for a certain period of time. The device used can be removed later on. The shoulder blade can then continue to grow.
