OPS-Code 5-79b.cj:
Repositioning of fracture and luxation: Open repositioning of a joint luxation: By transfixation nail: Proximal tibiofibular joint
The joint at your knee between your tibia and fibula was surgically realigned and stabilized using assistive devices.
There are 2 bones in the lower leg, the tibia and the fibula. The tibia is on the inside of the leg. The fibula is on the outside of the leg. Both bones in the lower leg have an upper, middle and lower section. Just below the knee joint, the tibia and fibula are connected by a joint.
The bones of the joint between your tibia and your fibula were first returned to their correct position. The joint between your tibia and your fibula was then stabilized inside the bone using one or more long pins.
The purpose of the long pins is to stabilize the joint from within. To achieve this, they are inserted into the interior of the bone. The long nails are inserted through bones and join these bones together. Joints can be temporarily reinforced like this.
