The knee joint connects the thigh to the lower leg. The knee joint is made up of 3 bones. These bones are the thighbone (femur), the shinbone (tibia) and the kneecap. The kneecap sits in a groove at the front of the thighbone.The body’s ligaments consist of tough connective tissue. Ligaments hold the joints together and ensure that we can move our joints normally.The collateral ligaments, among other structures, are located on the sides of the knee joint. The medial collateral ligament is on the inside, while the lateral collateral ligament is on the outside. The two collateral ligaments provide stability to the knee.
You have had an operation on one or more ligaments on the inside of your knee joint. If ligaments in the knee joint are damaged, the joint can be stabilized again in different ways. Either your body’s own material or synthetic material can be used for this purpose.
