OPS-Code 5-810.40:
Arthroscopic joint operations: Arthroscopic joint operation: Removal of loose bodies from joints: Glenohumeral joint
Detached tissue was removed from your shoulder joint.
The shoulder joint is the joint between the shoulder blade and the humerus. The bones in a joint are covered with cartilage. When the joint is moved, the cartilage prevents the bones from rubbing against one another. The cartilage is normally strong and elastic, with a smooth surface.Joints are encased in a joint capsule. The synovial membrane lines the inside of the joint capsule.
Parts of bone, cartilage, or the synovial membrane can detach completely or partially inside a joint. This detached tissue was removed as part of an arthroscopy. An arthroscopy first involves making a small incision in the skin. A thin tube is advanced through this incision. There is a camera at the top of the tube. The camera transmits images of the inside of the joint to a screen. Instruments such as forceps and scissors can be inserted into the joint through other small incisions.
