The shoulder joint is the joint between the shoulder blade and the humerus.The bones in a joint are covered with cartilage. When the joint is moved, the cartilage prevents the bones from rubbing against one another. The cartilage is normally strong and elastic, with a smooth surface.
When cartilage is worn or damaged, the affected areas can be smoothed out. In the process, any cartilage tissue that has become detached or is sticking out can be removed. The cartilage was smoothed out via an arthroscopy.An arthroscopy first involves making a small incision in the skin. A thin tube is advanced through this incision. There is a camera at the top of the tube. The camera transmits images of the inside of the joint to a screen. Instruments such as forceps and scissors can be inserted into the joint through other small incisions.
