In den letzten Wochen der Schwangerschaft dreht sich das Kind in die Geburtsposition. Normalerweise zeigt der Kopf des Kindes dann nach unten und liegt im Becken der Mutter. Meistens zeigt das Gesicht vom Kind zum mütterlichen Rücken und das Kind hat den Kopf zur Brust gebeugt. Der Rücken vom Kind ist zur rechten oder linken Seite der Mutter gedreht.
Wenn das Kind nicht in der üblichen Geburtsposition liegt, dann kann das zu Problemen führen und beispielsweise die Geburt verlängern oder einen Kaiserschnitt nötig machen.
