Kalzium ist zum Beispiel wichtig für die Stabilität der Knochen. Außerdem brauchen wir Kalzium unter anderem für unsere Muskeln und für unsere Nerven.
Wenn das Kind mit Kuhmilch ernährt wird, kann der Kalzium-Gehalt im Blut zu niedrig sein. In Kuhmilch ist viel Phosphat enthalten. Phosphat und Kalzium beeinflussen sich gegenseitig. Der Kalzium-Gehalt nimmt ab, wenn viel Phosphat vorhanden ist.
Wenn der Kalzium-Gehalt im Blut bei einem Neugeborenen zu niedrig ist, können verschiedene Anzeichen auftreten. Beispielsweise können Probleme mit der Atmung auftreten. Das Kind kann zudem zittern oder Muskelkrämpfe bekommen. Der Herzschlag kann außerdem schneller sein als gewöhnlich. Es ist aber auch möglich, dass keine äußeren Anzeichen auftreten.
